Carturesti Carusel, Bucharest

At Play The Carousel of Light

I'd first read about Carturesti Carusel, an amazing all-white bookstore that opened in Bucharest, Romania, on Laughing Squid. It looked like a fantastic bookstore.

The store had just opened in February, 2015, and since Bucharest was on our itinerary for mid-March, of course we had to visit. The first thing we discovered is that's it's not as white as we thought it would be. It was still cool, though.

Carturesti Carusel (which means Carousel of Light) has five floors. The basement level sells games and music and DVDs. The first floor is for popular books and trinkets, while the second and their floors sell books, both in English and Romanian. The fourth floor has a cafe (we didn't visit as we'd just eaten).

It was a well organized store with a helpful staff and an excellent children's books section. The girls, having both read Lemony Snicket's Series of Unfortunate Events, liked seeing the Romanian editions of the series.

The good news is you don't have to come to Bucharest (although you should) to visit the bookstore, you can visit Carturesti Carusel online.
